MONMOUTH, Ill. – Sophomore forward Kara-Jade Gordon (Nashville, Ill./University School) this week became just the third woman in Monmouth College women’s soccer history to earn All-Region status.
The Fighting Scots’ leading scorer last season, Gordon claimed North Region third team status in a vote of the United Soccer Coaches (USC) member coaches. Despite missing a quarter of the season with an injury, Gordon still managed to lead Monmouth in goals (13), points (33) and assists (7). Her efforts helped lead the Scots to a runner-up finish in the Midwest Conference Championships – matching the program’s best league finish in 2013. The Scots’ 11 wins were just one shy of the program record, also set in 2013. With two seasons left in her Fighting Scot career, Gordon ranks sixth in career goals (24) and ninth in points (58).
A psychology major, she is the daughter of Daniel and Olive Gordon. She joins Samantha Barranco – the Scots’ only two-time winner – and Denise Nelson as the only Scots to earn All-Region honors. Barranco claimed second team honors in 2013 after earning third team status in 2012. Nelson earned third team status in 2013.
Founded in 1941 and formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA), the USC is the world’s largest soccer coaching organization. With 30,000 members, the USC also awards All-American, Scholar All-American, Team Academic, Coach and Player of the Year awards.
