Girls Basketball

Our first tournament champion of the week around our listening area was crowned last night at the 32nd Annual Lady Cranberry Classic at ROWVA High School in Oneida. The Mercer County Golden Eagles got out to a big first quarter lead and cruised from there in a 54-33 rout of the tournament hosts, the ROWVA Tigers. Emma Coulter led the winners with 16 points. ROWVA was led in scoring by Caylyn Garza with 14 points. ROWVA ends the tournament at (2-1), already doubling their entire win output from last year under new head coach, Mike Wietekamp. In the first game of the night, A-Town comes back to beat West Central 41-39, outscoring the Heat 12-8 in the 4th quarter. Kayleigh Sebben led A-Town with 14 points. Carley Lafary led West Central with 14 points. A-Town ends the tournament at (1-2), while the Heat were winless at (0-3).

Play continued at the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament. Local rivals, Monmouth-Roseville and United matched up in pool play. It was Monmouth-Roseville jumping out to a 13-6 lead after one quarter and extending the lead to 37-11 at the half on the strength of a big 24 point second quarter. The Titans would go on to get a 61-24 victory over the Red Storm. Camryn Jones and Carly Gillen led a balanced Monmouth-Roseville attack with 12 and 10 points respectively. Carly Thompson led United with six points. Also in Ridgewood, it was Riverdale over Rockridge 40-12 and BPC over Elmwood 54-42. No report from the Knoxville-Galva game. Monmouth-Roseville will take on Orion tonight at 7:30 at the high school gym. United will battle Knoxville also at the high school gym at 6:00.

Macomb fell to (0-2) in their Thanksgiving Tournament, losing to Pleasant Plains 64-38.

The first West Central Conference North Division contest was held last night in Camp Point. The Camp Point Central/Southeastern Panthers fell to West Hancock 52-44.
