Girls Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team clinched second place in their pool in the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament last night with a 62-27 win over Orion. After giving up 15 points in the first quarter to the Chargers, Monmouth-Roseville only gave up 12 points total in the final three quarters, including a scant two points in the fourth quarter. Mackenzie Connell led all scorers with 14 points for the Titans. Cora Neal was also in double figures for Monmouth-Roseville with 12. The Titans end pool play with a record of (3-1). In the first game of the night at Alwood High School in Woodhull, the Knoxville Blue Bullets clinched a spot in tomorrow night’s championship game with a 64-12 win over United. The Blue Bullets led 33-6 at the half. Shelby Shreeves led a pair of Knoxville players in double figures with 13 points. Alis Bickell totaled 11 points as well for the Blue Bullets. United was led by Carly Thompson and Arianna Villarreal each with four points apiece. Knoxville is now (3-0) and United is (0-3). Also last night in Woodhull, it Elmwood over Rockridge 41-34 and Riverdale wins their pool at (4-0) with a victory over Ridgewood 55-31. Pool play finishes up tonight with United playing Galva at 7:30 in the middle school gym and Knoxville taking on Orion at 6:00, also in the middle school gym. Championship crossover play starts tomorrow night at 6:00 with Monmouth-Roseville playing the second place team in Pool A, which has yet to be determined, and Knoxville battling Riverdale at 7:30 for the tournament title.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls basketball team moved to (2-0) in the Galesburg Thanksgiving Tournament at John Thiel Gym with a 52-34 win over Metamora. The Streaks led 29-16 at the half and 45-24 at the end of three quarters. Andrea Sampson and Yvonne Mixon led Galesburg in scoring with 14 points each. Also in double figures was Emily Meinert with 12 and Kelsi Legge with 10. The Streaks continue their tournament at John Thiel Gym with a pair of games tomorrow, starting with a 9:00 am game against Rockford East and ending the day with a 7:00 contest vs. Springfield. They’ll finish the tournament with a game against Danville Schlarman next Saturday at 6:00.

At the Fulton County Tournament in Farmington, it was South Fulton over North Fulton 54-38 and Lewistown beating Farmington 46-36.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams hosted Lombard in Roseville on Thursday night. The 7th grade Titans topped the Zephyrs 35-19 to improve to 3-1 on the season. Max Cole led the way for Monmouth-Roseville with 12 points. The 8th grade Titans fell 40-25 to drop to 3-1 on the season. Leading the Monmouth-Roseville offense was Ben Anderson with six points.
