Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Nov. 21st, 2017

Boys Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team got their season, and Orion Tip-Off Classic Tournament, underway last night at Orion High School. The Titans jumped out to a 16-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruise from there, getting a 64-32 win over the Chargers. Nick Kelley led Monmouth-Roseville with 25 points, 20 of those in the second half. Jamonny Skinner and Jordan Cheek added 12 each for Monmouth-Roseville. Noah Anderson led the Chargers with nine. Alleman beat Erie 63-44 behind Gaurau Patwal’s 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds and it was Mercer County all over Prophetstown 71-36. Jaden Dellitt had 17 points for Mercer County.

Also getting their 2017-2018 seasons going were the United Red Storm and West Central Heat boys. Both teams are taking part in the ROWVA/Williamsfield Thanksgiving Tournament this week. The United Red Storm took on the host Cougars in their first game of the six-team round robin tourney. The Red Storm fall 60-43. United only trailed 40-34 heading to the fourth quarter but were outscored 20-9 in that final frame. Leading the Red Storm offense was Adam Johnson with 14 points and Toby Whitsitt with 11. For ROWVA/Williamsfield, Austin Batterson had 23 and Isaac Cordle scored 14 points. The West Central Heat played the middle game of the three contests last night in Williamsfield, playing Henry-Senachwine. The Heat fall 50-45. Falling behind 33-23 at the half, West Central attempted a furious second half rally but fall just short. Bradon Annegers led all scorers with 28 points to lead the Heat. The first game of the night went to DePue, 58-52 over Galva. Cooper Hoxworth led the Wildcats with 20 points and Mason Kaiser added 18. Tonight, United and West Central do battle at 6:30 from Williamsfield High School. We’ll have that game on AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM and 1330wram.com. Mitch McVey and myself will have the call of that one with our pregame starting at 6:15, tip-off is scheduled for 6:30.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys basketball team got their Thanksgiving Tournament off to a great start with a 51-41 win over Peoria Notre Dame at John Thiel Gym in Galesburg. The Streaks led at the end of every period and were led in scoring by Jacob Carl’s 14 points. Khalil Hodge and Andrew Anderson were also in double figures with ten points each.

In the Spoon River Tip-off Classic in Bushnell, the BPC Spartans beat West Prairie 65-24. Devin Yocum led Bushnell-Prairie City with 25 points. Jason Housenga added 14 points for the Spartans. West Hancock defeated Stark County 58-17 and it was the Galesburg sophomores over the Canton JV 73-50. Adam Stewart led Galesburg with 21 points, while Cory Jackson chipped in with 19 for the Sophmore Streaks.

Junior High

In junior high girls basketball last night, the ICS Trojan 7th grade defeated Williamsfield 58-13 in the regional semi-finals at ICS Junior High. Malia Killey and Mattie Gillen led the Trojans in scoring with 18 and 16 points respectively. ICS will play Galva, winners over Cuba 28-19 in the second semi-final last night, tonight at 6:00 in the regional championship game at ICS.

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High boys basketball teams faced Mercer County Monday night in Prairieland Conference play in Joy, Illinois. The 7th grade Titans are (3-2) on the season after falling 41-35 to the Golden Eagles. Leading Monmouth-Roseville’s offense was Max Cole with 15 points and Jerome Jackson with 10. The 8th grade Titans improved to (4-1) with a 36-26 victory over Mercer County. Leading the Titan 8th grade in scoring was Connor Thompson and Charlie Fletcher with six points each.

Search Warrant Leads to Two Drug Arrests

On 03/15/24 at approximately 1700 hours, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office deputies and members of the West Central Illinois Special Response Team served a search warrant in the 600 block of
