Boys Basketball

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys basketball team completed an undefeated run through their own Galesburg Thanksgiving Tournament with a 57-40 win over Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin on Saturday night. After a 12-11 first quarter, the Streaks used a 15-2 second quarter to lead at the half 27-13. Jacob Carl led Galesburg with 13 points. Cornell Dotson and Andrew Anderson were also in double figures for the Silver Streaks with 11 points each. Those three players plus Khalil Hodge were placed on the all-tournament team. Galesburg finished the week at (5-0) and were named co-champs with fellow Western Big Six Conference foes, Moline High School. The Maroons were also (5-0) on the week, getting two wins on Saturday.

The United Red Storm boys basketball team dropped to (1-3) in the ROWVA/Willliamsfield Invitational with a 63-42 loss to DePue. Adam Johnson continued a strong tournament with 10 points to lead the Red Storm. DePue is the only undefeated team in the tournament at (4-0). The West Central Heat are still looking for their first win on the season after losing to (3-1) Galva 46-28. Leading the Heat offense was Bradon Annegars with 17 points. The tournament concludes tonight with United taking on (1-3) Henry-Senachwine at 6:30 and West Central playing DePue in the first game from Williamsfield High School at 5:00. The tourney’s final game is (3-1) ROWVA/Williamsfield playing Galva at 8:00.
The West Hancock Titan boys basketball team won the Spoon River Tip-off Classic in Bushnell. The Titans go (5-0) for the week, ending with a 44-43 victory over the 2nd place hosts, BPC Spartans. West Hancock’s Drake Hummel’s 3-pointer at the final buzzer was the difference in that one. Hummel led all scorers in the game with 19 points. The Galesburg Silver Streak sophomore team went (2-3) for the tournament and finished with a 47-35 win over West Prairie. Rylee Milan led Galesburg with 23 points.

At the Ridgewood Boys Basketball Tournament in Woodhull, the host Ridgewood Spartans beat the A-Town Tornadoes on Saturday to win their own tournament championship. The Spartans, Tornadoes and Riverdale all finish with (2-1) records for the week. The Spartans win via the free-throw percentage tie-breaker. Knoxville ended the week at (0-3) with a 49-16 loss to Riverdale on Saturday.

Girls Basketball

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls basketball team finished up their Thanksgiving Tournament as well at John Thiel Gym with a 51-22 loss to tournament champ Danville Schlarman. The Silver Streaks only trailed 14-13 at the end of the first quarter but would only score nine total points in the final three quarters to fall to (3-2) in the tournament and (3-3) overall. Chloe McCarthy led Galesburg with seven points.
