Boys Basketball

The ROWVA/Willliamsfield Boys Basketball Invitational Tournament concluded last night with the DePue Little Giants winning the title with a record of (5-0). In their final game of the tourney last night, the Little Giants beat West Central 58-30. Leading the Heat was Bradon Annegars with eight points. After getting shutout in the second quarter, West Central trailed 33-6 at the half. The Heat finish the week with a record of (0-5). The Galva Wildcats took second in the tournament with a record of (4-1) after beating the host ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars in a tight one, 43-40. Ethan Peterson led the winning Wildcats with 13 points and Cooper Hoxworth contributed 10. The Cougars were led in scoring by Austin Batterson with 16 points. R/W ended their week with a record of (3-2). The United Red Storm equalled their win total from all last year after defeating Henry-Senachwine 49-33 to end their tournament with a record of (2-3). The Red Storm actually trailed by eleven points at the half, 25-14 but outscored the Mallards 35-8 in the second half, including an 18-0 scoring advantage in the third quarter. Adam Johnson led United with 18 points and Ethan Chenault was also in double figures with 10.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys freshman basketball team lost to Macomb 50-43 in their season opener. Demond Holloway and Jase Atwater led the Streaks with nine points each.

Girls Basketball

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls improved to (7-0) on the season with a non-conference 71-25 win over Peoria Christian at Knoxville High School. The Bullets led 31-8 at the half. Four Knoxville girls reached double digits in scoring, led by Lauren Kavanaugh with 17 points. Also getting double digit points was Anna Larson and Breena Shreeves with 12 each and Shelby Shreeves with 10.

The West Central Heat traveled to Hamilton for a non-conference matchup with the West Hancock Titans. The Heat had trouble scoring in the first half and trailed 33-12 at the break. The final score was 63-35 in favor of the Titans. Mady Reed led West Central with 12 points. Kailee Pfeiferling led West Hancock with 18.

BPC dominated Beardstown 55-21 and Macomb lost a high-scoring affair to Canton 87-70. In Prairieland Conference play, it was Farmington defeating A-Town 54-32 and North Fulton losing to Lewistown 78-51.

The Galesburg Silver Streak freshman girls basketball team beat Moline 62-57 at home last night. Sophie Gugliotta led Galesburg with 23 points and Lauren Livingston added 21.

Wrestling

The Galesburg High School wrestling team won the Illini Bluffs Invitational over the weekend. The Silver Streaks got wins from Harley Kent at 126 pounds, Nick Perry at 170 pounds, Cayden Taflinger at 195 pounds and Robert Castellano at 220 pounds. The Knoxville Blue Bullet wrestlers took 3rd with numerous first place finishes as well, including Zack Dean at 132 pounds, Reuben Cantu at 138 pounds, Anthony Razo at 145 pounds and Kage Leab at 152.

Junior High

In junior high boys basketball last night, the Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High basketball teams swept Knoxville in Prairieland Conference play on the road in Knoxville. The 7th grade Titans improved to (4-2) overall and (1-1) in league play with a 40-25 win. Leading Monmouth-Roseville in scoring was Max Cole with 15 points and Jerome Jackson with eight. The 8th grade Titans are now (5-1) overall and (2-0) in the Prairieland after earning a 30-24 victory over the Blue Bullets. Leading the Monmouth-Roseville offense was Ben Anderson with 15 and Zemi Ismaili with nine.
