Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Nov. 2nd, 2017



Defending IHSA Class 1A volleyball state champs, West Prairie, is still alive to try and repeat their run from 2016. The Cyclones defeated Hartsburg-Emden in three sets, 25-23, 21-25, 25-12 in the Brimfield sectional finals last night. West Prairie, now (29-10) on the season, were led by standout Peyton Bowman’s 22 kills and Karlee Herman’s 11 digs. Cora Vyhnanek handed out 33 assists and had ten digs. The Cyclones will now take on (33-1-1) Durand in the Midland High School super sectionals tomorrow night at 6:00.

Also in 1A last night, West Central Conference South Division champs, Payson/Seymour, moved on to the Lincolnwood super sectional with a 25-7, 25-20 victory over Lincolnwood. Payson/Seymour is now (39-1) and will play (22-13) Steeleville tomorrow night in the Lincolnwood super sectionals tomorrow night at 7:00.

The Orion Chargers run to a Class 2A title was derailed by Galena in the Oregon Sectional championship game. The Chargers fall 25-20, 25-22 to the Pirates. Sarah Jacobsen had eight kills and Faith Catour dished out 12 assists for Orion, who ends the year with a record of (32-6).

In the 3A Galesburg High School sectional final at John Thiel Gymnasium it was Limestone over LaSalle-Peru 25-16, 25-16.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville 7th and 8th grade were swept by Sherrard in Prairieland Conference play Roseville. The Titan 7th grade fell 23-16. Mariah Reading led Monmouth-Roseville with six points. Sherrard completed the sweep with a 37-17 victory over the Titans in the 8th grade contest. Brooke Taylor led Monmouth-Roseville with nine points. No rest for the Titans as they head to Alwood for a pair of games tonight.
