Boys Basketball

The United Red Storm boys basketball team picked up their first win of the season last night, defeating the West Central Heat 53-50 in a good ballgame at the ROWVA/Willliamsfield Invitational. The Red Storm trailed 38-33 in the fourth quarter before finishing the game on a 20-12 run to get a 53-50 win and move to (1-1) on the season. The Heat fall to (0-2). Leading the Red Storm in scoring was Adam Johnson with 17 points and Ethan Chenault with 16, 13 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Landon Beelman led West Central with 15 points and Bradon Annegars chipped in with 14. The two teams have the night off before resuming the tourney on Friday night. Also getting wins last night was Galva over Henry/Senachwine 69-48. Mason Kaiser led Galva with 23 points, including six 3-pointers. DePue beat ROWVA/Williamsfield 52-40 in the nightcap. Austin Batterson led R/W with 13 points.

The Monmouth-Roseville boys fell to Alleman 76-66. Jordan Cheek and Nick Kelley led Monmouth-Roseville with 17 points each. Saurabh Patwal scored 27 points for Alleman, including seven 3-pointers.

The Galesburg sophomore boys played game two of their Spoon River Valley Tournament in Bushnell last night. The Streaks drop a 70-44 contest to West Hancock. Rylee Milan led Galesburg with 17 points.

Girls Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team traveled to Warsaw for their first West Central Conference North Division matchup with West Hancock. The game was tied at 38-all heading to the fourth quarter but the Titans would outscore West Hancock 17-2 in the final frame to improve to (5-1) on the season. Carly Gillen led Monmouth-Roseville with 24 points. Cora Neal had 14 as well for the Titans.

The United Red Storm girls basketball team lost to Erie 37-25. Shaylynn Lucas led United with 10 points.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls basketball team took on the Rock Island Lady Rocks in Rock Island last night. The Rocks have two Division I athletes in Chrislynn Carr and Brea Beal. Carr has already committed to Texas Tech, while Beal has yet to commit to a college or university, but is being courted by many top D-I programs. Carr and Beal would combine for 32 points and 14 rebounds in a 58-24 win over the Silver Streaks. Lauren Campbell and Emily Meinert scored six points apiece for Galesburg to lead the Streaks in scoring. Galesburg is now (3-2) on the season. The Silver Streaks will finish their Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday night at 6:00 at John Thiel Gym vs. Danville Schlarman.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan 7th grade girls basketball team won a regional championship 33-5 over Galva at ICS Junior High last night. Mattie Gillen had 14 points & Malia Killey had 10. Galva’s leading scorer was Lexi Stone with 3. ICS will host the 7th grade Sectional on Wednesday, Nov 29 at 6:30.
