Scots Gearing up for Showdown with Knox

Since their lone 36-13 loss against Wartburg in Week 2, the Monmouth College Fighting Scots football team has been dominant. Led by an impenetrable defense, Chad Braun’s squad has outscored opponents 271-31 over their last six contests. Coach Braun is pleased by the progression of his team as the season has moved forward.

“They have continued to get better and better every game. Last year, I felt like we were a finished product Week 1. Not that we didn’t get better, we did, but we were pretty dang good Week 1. This team was not a finished product Week 1. They have continued to get better and better and put some themselves in this position. We just got to keep doing that every day – getting better. If we go out and get better today, then we’ll be where we want to be in the end,” Braun said.

Up next for the Scots will be the highly-anticipated Turkey Bowl matchup with hated rival Knox College this Saturday at home. Knox owns a 4-4 record on the season and is coming off a heartbreaking 52-51 double overtime loss to Cornell College. Even with the Homecoming atmosphere surrounding this rivalry, Braun isn’t worried about his team’s mindset heading into this game.

“When you look at our last three games – Lake Forest, Knox, and obviously St. Norbert in the championship game now – I don’t have to do a whole lot of motivating to get our guys ready to play,” he said. “The Lake Forest game was a big one – the Southern division championship. Now Knox, who is our rival. And then, obviously the conference championship game. We don’t have to say a whole lot. Our guys will be ready to go.”

Kickoff between Monmouth and Knox is scheduled for 2 p.m. Pre-game coverage will start at 1:30 on WRAM.
