PASADENA, California – The Prairie Fire men’s basketball team faced a loss for the first time in three games after falling 75-45 to Caltech. The matchup finished up their winter break road trip; the Fire finished 1-1 in California and 2-1 on the roadtrip overall.

DJ Lewis led the Fire in scoring for his second straight game, finishing with 11 points and five assists. Jonathan Damota finished with seven points and Bryce Wilkinson had six points off the bench. Knox was able to outscore the Beavers 17-8 in points off turnovers, but could not get much going otherwise.

Taliah Ellis, Knox College Women’s Baskeball

KENOSHA, Wisconsin—The Prairie Fire women’s basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Carthage team on Saturday afternoon and suffered a 77-36 defeat.

Knox (7-3) fell behind 9-0 early after the Lady Reds hit three straight treys to open up the first quarter. Carthage had built up a 21-9 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 40-20 lead by halftime. The Prairie Fire struck first in the second half when Talia Ellis hit a three-pointer. The comeback attempt would be short-lived, however. The Lady Reds responded with a 9-0 run to take a 26-point lead. Carthage led by 37 by the end of the third quarter. Knox scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, but another 9-0 run by the Lady Reds allowed Carthage to cruise to victory.

Taliah Ellis, Hailey Leinart, and Jarrelyn McCall led the Prairie Fire with seven points apiece. Ellis added six rebounds, while McCall grabbed five. Morgan Potter scored six points and brought down five rebounds.

Knox will return to action on December 29 when they travel to Central College.
