SOUTH HOLLAND — Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball sophomore Madison Lowe (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) was so hot from 3-point range Thursday afternoon, even the scorekeeper couldn’t keep track.

Lowe led the Chargers to a 66-64 victory at South Suburban behind a career-high 38 points while hitting 12 of 17 from beyond the arc. One of her 3s was incorrectly credited to teammate Morgan Kirby (Fairmount, Ill./Salt Fork) in the print-out of the box score, which showed Lowe as 11 of 16 from long range. Her dozen treys are believed to be a Sandburg record, but most importantly, it powered the Chargers (4-8) to their third victory in the last four games.

Lowe’s previous career high in scoring was 23 points in back-to-back contests last season against Black Hawk and Illinois Valley. She had hit five 3s in a game on three previous occasions — last season against Lincoln as well as earlier this year at Lake County and at Bryant & Stratton.

South Suburban (9-4) pulled within one late on a three-point play from Angel Kidd, but Lowe answered with her final triple of the night to help the Chargers close out the victory.

Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) added nine points (on 4-of-8 shooting) and five rebounds for Sandburg. The Chargers also got five boards apiece from Alivia Cummings (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) and Abby Masterson (Bradford, Ill./Stark County).

Sandburg rallied after falling into an early 16-5 hole in the first quarter. The Chargers came back to tie it at 27 at halftime, and they took a 49-44 lead into the fourth.

Kidd finished with 16 points and five assists to lead the Bulldogs. Indian Pierson added 12 points for South Suburban.

The Chargers will take some time off for the holidays before getting back into action at 6 p.m. Jan. 3 at home against John Wood.
