The Galesburg Parks and Recreation Division always has a number of programs going on at any given time. Elizabeth Varner with Parks and Rec wanted to remind folks about some upcoming opportunities, starting with the Candyland Ball taking place tonight:
“We have over 200 that will be participating in that at the Lake Storey Pavilion. That is always one of my favorite events to witness and see. That place is going to be lit up. We are going to be making memories for those dads and daughters,” she said.
The Ball will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., and will feature line dancing, seasonal crafts and songs, a dinner buffet, and a visit from Santa. The cost is $52.00 per couple and $22.00 each additional child.
Coming up on Dec. 9th, the Lakeside Nature Center will be host to a holiday ornament creation and candy cane hunt event. The event will last from 9 to 11 a.m. Pre-registration is not needed to attend. The Parks and Rec division also has various other programs available for sign-up involving tennis, volleyball, and aquatic fitness classes. Varner highlighted a very exciting opportunity for junior high kids in February as well:
“We have a Chestnut Mountain Ski Trip coming up for junior high students. It’s February 16th, but we really need them to register now for that because registration ends on January 19th. This is an opportunity for sixth through eighth graders to come with us. We have a coach bus that’s going to Galena, Chestnut Mountain, and it’s going to be a really fun trip,” Varner said.
