Here’s your local high school Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 19th, 2017:

Your United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Jerzi Johnson. Jerzi scored a career-high 20 points in an overtime win at the Knoxville/Abingdon Tournament. Four of those points came in the ever-important extra period.

Your A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is freshman girls basketball player, Emily Wilson. Emily exploded for 12 points in win over United at the Abingdon/Knoxville Holiday Tournament. Eight of those points came after halftime as helped her team break open a close game.

Your West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Jessica Smith. Jessica’s shooting touch from behind the 3-point line played a big part in her team’s two wins in the Abingdon/Knoxville Tournament last week. She scored 11 points in a win over ROWVA with three, 3-pointers and had another pair of triples in a victory over United.

Your Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior wrestler, Robert Castellano. Robert earned a 3rd place finish at the Metamora Invitational. Wrestling at 220 pounds, he went (2-1) for the tournament, losing a close 5-4 match to the eventual division champion in the semi-finals. He rebounded to get a 1-0 decision in the 3rd place match.

Your Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior wrestler, Kody Atwell. Kody earned four wins in the past week alone in the 106 pound weight class. He took 5th place at the always-tough PORTA Invitational earlier this season and has an overall record of (12-3).
