Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Jan. 10th, 2018

Wrestling

The Monmouth-Rosevillle wrestling team hosted the Knoxville Blue Bullets for their senior night festivities at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The Blue Bullets came away with a 50-36 win over the home town Titans. Getting wins for Monmouth-Roseville was Danilo Fernandez, Kody Atwell, Ashton Anderson, Corey Stokes and Rodrigo Raygoza. Getting wins for Knoxville were Isaiah Jennings, Dalton Crouse, Tanner Warren, Brandon Parrish, Matt Carlson, Zack Dean, Reuben Cantu, Anthony Razo and Kage Leab. Both teams will head to the Kewanee Invitational this weekend.

The Galesburg Silver Streak wrestling team got a 42-26 win on the road at Rockridge High School last night. No details were given for the match.

Boys Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys broke a 3-game losing streak with a 68-50 win on the road at Peoria Heights. The Titans jumped out to a 23-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way. Nick Kelley led all scorers with 18 points for the Titans. JC Sells, Lane Frieden and Austin Hammond were also in double figures in scoring with 15, 11 and 10 points respectively. Monmouth-Roseville gets back over the .500 mark on the season at (8-7).

The West Central Heat boys basketball team ran their winning streak to four games with a 50-33 win over Stark County in Lincoln Trail Conference play. The Heat, now (5-10) on the season were led in scoring by Bradon Annegers with a 17 points and Ben Krieger added 15.

Elsewhere in LTC action, United drops a 58-26 decision to a very good Annawan ballclub at the Fieldhouse at United High School. Evan Wynne and DJ Dutton led United with six points each.

Also it was Galva over Ridgewood 86-84 in a shootout. Ridgewood was led by Riley Nelson with 23 points. Mason Kaiser led Galva with 23 points.

Mercer County also put 80 points on the board, getting an 80-70 win over Princeville.
In an important Prairieland Conference matchup in Farmington, the visiting BPC Spartans get a 48-42 win over the Farmers. Jason Housenga led BPC with 14 points.

Knoxville beats West Prairie 49-36. Cal Engebretson led Knoxville in scoring with 15 points.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg boys swimming and diving team lost a close 98-88 dual meet to United Township, also on the road in East Moline. Drew Giles continued his nice season with a win in the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 breastroke. Zach Cantwell was also an individual winner in the 200 IM and the 100 yard freestyle. Tommy Williams touched the wall first in the 500 freestyle and the Galesburg 400 yard freestyle relay team of Giles, Cantwell, Lorenzo Moreno and Jared Shipp were victorious.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville junior high girls volleyball team got their season started last night with a trip to United Jr. High. The 7th grade lady Titans won the first match 25-12, was outscored in the second match 16-25, and came back to win it in the third match 25-23. Top scorers from the game for the Titans were Mariah Reading with ten and Addisyn Switzer with nine. Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade Lady Titans swept United winning 25-14, 25-22, and 18-16. Isabel Sikorski, Megan Noel and Gabriela Morales had 5 service points to help lead the team to a victory.
