Monmouth-Roseville 7th Grade Prairieland Conference Champs
Monmouth-Roseville 8th Grade Prairieland Conference Champs

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams both competed for Prairieland Conference titles last night at Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High in Roseville. And both will keep the championship trophy at home. The Titan 7th graders beat Mercer County 40-30. Max Cole scores 16 points and Silas Braun chipped in with 7 points to lead Monmouth-Roseville in the victory. The Titan 7th grade is now (15-4) on the season heading into tonight’s game at Brimfield. Monmouth-Roseville will begin postseason play in Saturday’s Class 3A Regional opener against Sherrard at Mercer County Jr. High at 12:30. The Titan 8th graders defeated top-seed Rockridge 31-24. Ben Anderson had 17 of the Monmouth-Roseville 31 points. The Titan 8th grade is now (13-6).

 

United 7th Grade Lincoln Trail Conference Champs

The United Red Storm 7th grade boys basketball team is also a conference tournament champion. The Red Storm claimed the Lincoln Trail Conference title with a 29-23 win over Stark County in Woodhull. Abel Wilson led United with 13 points. The Red Storm 7th grade is (17-4) overall now on the season and will begin their postseason with a game against Knoxville at 10:00 on Saturday morning at Mercer County Jr. High. The Red Storm 8th grade boys played for 3rd place last night in their division of the Lincoln Trail Conference tournament. United falls to (12-9) on the season, dropping a 33-27 decision to Stark County. The Red Storm were led in scoring by Nolan Leffler with 12 points. They will take the floor next in a regional game at United Jr. High on January 27th.

 

 

The Monmouth-Roseville 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams traveled to Knoxville last night and came home with a sweep over the Blue Bullets. The Titan 7th grade won in three exciting sets, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20. Addie Switzer had nine service points, with five aces. The Titans are now (2-1) overall and (1-1) in the Prairieland Conference. Monmouth-Roseville’s 8th graders swept the Bullets in two sets, 25-17, 25-8. Karleigh Ashby had 11 service points with three kills. The 8th grade Titans are also (2-1) overall.

Girls Basketball

The Annawan Bravettes remained undefeated in the tournament and on the season with a 64-36 win over Stark County. That’s the 43rd straight win for the defending Class 1A State Champs. Annawan’s Jayde VanHyfte scored more than the entire Rebels team with 38 points. That puts VanHyfte over the 2,400 point mark for her career. Last week, she went over 1,000 rebounds in her career as well. The Bravettes are now (22-0) and will play Mercer County tonight for the Pool A championship and a spot in the title game on Saturday night at 7:00. Princeville beat Ridgewood 56-40 last night to setup a game against Wethersfield tonight for the Pool B championship. Carlie Barman led Ridgewood with 22 points. Also in pool play last night, Wethersfield beat Galva 45-22. Darrah Schilling led the Wildcats with eight points. In the final game of night 3 of pool play, it was Mercer County beating ROWVA 46-32. Abby Stowe led ROWVA with eight points.

In Prairieland Conference girls basketball last night, Knoxville survived a scare from Bushnell-Prairie City, beating the Lady Spartans 60-58 in overtime. Lauren Kavanagh led the Blue Bullets with a game-high 23 points and Breena Shreeves added 14. Emma Bradford led the Spartans with 16 points. Madison Allen added 13 points and Alyx Statler had 12 for B-PC. Knoxville improves to (20-4) overall and (4-1) in the Prairieland.
