Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Jan. 31st, 2018

Boys Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team traveled to Camp Point Central High School last night to take on the Panthers in a West Central Conference contest. The Panthers hit six, 3-pointers in the first half to get out to a 30-22 lead at the halftime break. The Titans would cut the deficit to two points several times in the second half but could not get over the hump and would eventually fall 53-49. Nick Kelley led the Titans with 13 points. He was the only Monmouth-Roseville player in double figures. The Titans are now (11-9) overall and (3-4) in the WCC North Division. The Panthers improve to (9-11) and (2-3). Monmouth-Roseville won the JV game 56-49. Jakob Thomas led the Titans with 13 points.

The Lincoln Trail Conference boys basketball tournament continued last night in night four of pool play. The United Red Storm lost to Galva 67-41. Brannock McVey led United with nine points. Ernie Heinrich led Galva with 13. Wethersfield defeated Princeville in a defensive slugfest 31-29. Jacob Schwerbrock led Wethersfield with 13 points. Also, it was Annawan over Ridgewood 63-51, despite 26 points from Ridgewood’s Brian Greenman. Finally, it was Mercer County over ROWVA/Williamsfield in a shootout 84-74. Rashaun King led Mer Co with 18 points and Austin Batterson led R/W with 24 points. That sets up the final night of pool play on Friday with Mercer County playing Wethersfield in the Fieldhouse at 7:30 for a chance to play in the tournament championship on Saturday night at 7:00. In the first game in the Fieldhouse on Friday at 6:00, Annawan will play Galva for the chance to play for the title as well. West Central plays Ridgewood at 7:30 in the old high school gym.

In other boys basketball last night, BPC beat Lewistown 50-22 in the Prairieland Conference. Devin Yocum led BPC with 14 points. In another Prairieland game, A-Town defeated North Fulton 50-31.

In the West Central Conference, West Hancock beat Illini West 47-30.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade boys basketball team beat Mercer County 37-27 in an IESA 3A Regional semi-final game at United Jr. High. Ben Anderson led Monmouth-Roseville with 12 points and Connor Thompson added 10. The Titans will play in the Regional Championship game tomorrow night at 6:00 vs. Rockridge at United Jr. High. Rockridge defeated Knoxville 33-38.
