Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Jan. 3rd, 2018

or Boys Basketball

Due to the freezing temperatures in our listening area, there were a number of basketball games postponed yesterday. The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team was scheduled to go to Abingdon last night but that game was moved to February 7th. The Macomb Bombers were slated to take on West Hancock in a West Central Conference North Division matchup and that game has been postponed to January 31st. Also, Camp Point Central’s contest against Southeastern has been changed to February 1st.

The United Red Storm boys basketball team traveled to Bushnell to play a solid BPC Spartan squad. The Spartans got out to a 15-8 lead after one quarter and a 20-12 lead at the half. BPC would put the game away with a 20-8 scoring advantage in the 3rd quarter on their way to a 48-33 victory. Devin Yocum led the winners with 14 points. Toby Whitsitt and Ethan Chenault led United with nine points each. The Red Storm are (4-9) on the season, while BPC improves to (12-2). The Spartans also won the JV game 47-37.

It was West Central beating Illini West 48-44 in Biggsville for an impressive non-conference win for the Heat. The Heat led 20-15 at the half and held on in the second half on the strength of 15 free throws in the final 16 minutes of the game. Bradon Annegers scored 15 points, Ben Krieger had 14 and Pat McKinney added 12 to lead the Heat. Jackson Porter led IW with 15 points.

Knoxville knocked off Stark County 46-42, four days after losing to Stark on the final day of the Erie Warkins Classic Holiday Tournament.

Havana beat Rushville-Industry 47-32 in the lone Prairieland Conference game last night. It was Lewistown over Delavan and Peoria Quest is now (13-6) after a 70-44 win over Peoria Christian.

Wrestling

The Knoxville wrestling team got a pair of wins last night in Carthage. The Blue Bullets defeated Illini West 27-18 and Camp Point Central 37-36. Getting two wins on the night for Knoxville was Brandon Parrish, Reuben Cantu and Dalton Crouse.

Girls Basketball

The Galesburg Silver Streak freshman girls basketball team got a 47-41 win over Burlington last night at John Thiel Gymnasium. The Streaks led 26-14 at the half but had to hold on down the stretch, scoring seven points from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Lauren Livingston led Galesburg with 19 points. Sophie Gugliotta chipped in with 15 points for the Silver Streaks.
