Girls Basketball

The United Red Storm girls lost to Riverdale 45-15 in a non-conference matchup in Riverdale. No details were given for this one.

Also in girls basketball on Saturday, the BPC Spartans defeated ROWVA in another non-con contest. Alyx Statler led the Spartans with 15 points, while Stormy Johnson led ROWVA with eight.

The A-Town Lady Tornadoes fell to Wethersfield 52-27. Payton Florine led the Tornadoes with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Lexi Nichols led Wethersfield with 19 points.

It was Elmwood over Ridgewood, 44-35 and Farmington beating Tremont 45-28.

At Wharton Fieldhouse in Moline all day Saturday, the IHMVCU Iowa/Illinois Girls Basketball Shootout took place. Reminiscent to the boys Iowa/Illinois Shootout in December, the Iowa side won five of the seven games played. The two games won by Illinois were by Sherrard and Alleman. The Sherrard Tigers beat Davenport West 53-17 and Alleman defeated Davenport Central 48-35. The state-ranked Rock Island Rocks lost another game, their 5th of the season, to Pleasant Valley 53-40. Moline lost to Bettendorf 45-44 and United Township fell to Assumption 52-47.

Wrapping up girls basketball this weekend, play started in the Camp Point Central/Southeastern Lady Panther Classic. The host Panthers, Lewistown, Illini West and Quincy all went (2-0) on Saturday during pool play. West Hancock was (1-1) and Havana was (0-2) for our local schools.

Boy’s Basketball

The Galesburg Silver Streaks traveled to St. Joseph-Ogden High School for their shootout. The Streaks fall to the 6th ranked team in Class 4A, Danville, 93-67. Danville drilled 18, 3-pointers in the game. Cornell Dotson and Andrew Anderson were both in double figures for Galesburg with 20 and 16 points respectively.

The Ridgewood Spartans also participated in a shootout. They were in Clinton High School’s New Year’s Basketball Showdown. The Spartans blew out Sangamon Valley 75-28. Briar Greenman led four Ridgewood players in double figures with 17 points. Riley Nelson scored 15, Travis Kane had 12 and Jordan Francis had 11 for the Spartans.

Mercer County lost to Rockford Christian in a close, offensive shootout at the Sauk Valley Bank Shootout at Rock Falls High School, 79-77.

The Hancock County Boys Invitational Tournament began on Saturday. Mendon Unity beat Southeastern 39-30 and it was Illini West over Keokuk, Iowa 50-38.

Macomb defeated Canton 67-54 in a non-conference game in Macomb.

The Galesburg Silver Streak freshman girls defeated Peoria Notre Dame, 53-35. Lauren Livingston led Galesburg with 22 points and Lily Hudgins chipped in with 12.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg boys swimming and diving team participated in the Normal Iron Invite on Saturday. The Streaks placed 6th out of 8 schools participating. Individually, Drew Giles won the 100 yard breaststroke and was 2nd in the 200 yard IM.

Bowling

The Galesburg girls bowling team was in Abingdon for a Memorial Tournament. The Streaks won the girls side of the co-ed tourney, rolling a team total of 4401. Alyssa Theobald led all bowlers with a 6-game pinfall total of 1059 for an average of 177. The host Tornado boys were 5th with a 5002 team total. They were led by Dalton Gabbert and Johnathon Mason’s 1036’s. The A-Town girls placed 2nd with a team score of 4359. Amber Stevenson led the Lady Tornadoes with a 990, 6-game total series. The West Central boys were 4th and the Heat girls were 3rd. No individual scores were given for West Central.
