Boys Basketball
The United Red Storm boys basketball team ran their winning streak to two games with a non-conference makeup game 43-38 win over West Prairie. The Red Storm led 23-19 at the half and held on despite going 8-for-17 from the foul line in the second half. United, now (9-19) on the season, was led in scoring by Adam Johnson with 12 points. United’s JV team was also victorious, beating the Cyclones 41-29.
In another makeup boys basketball game last night, the powerful offense of the Mercer County Golden Eagles put 84 points on the scoreboard in an 84-55 Lincoln Trail Conference win over ROWVA/Williamsfield. Austin Batterson led R/W in scoring with 13 points in the loss. Rashaun King led Mercer County with 18. The Golden Eagles are (22-5) overall and still in first place in the LTC at (7-0).
Also in the Lincoln Trail last night, Wethersfield moved to (5-1) in conference play with a 71-50 win over Ridgewood. Wethersfield freshman Coltin Quagliano led everyone on the court in scoring with 29 points. Briar Greenman had 25 for Ridgewood.
Members of the 1968 and 1998 Galesburg Silver Streak boys basketball teams were honored before the Streak’s makeup game vs. Alleman. Galesburg blew out the Pioneers afterwards 71-38 in a Western Big Six Conference matchup. The Streaks got 14 points from freshman Eric Price. Khalil Hodge had 13 points for Galesburg and Cornell Dotson and Jacob Carl each chipped in with 10 points. With the win, the Streaks are now (19-8) overall and (4-3) in league play. The sophomore Silver Streaks were also victorious as they got a 66-39 win over the Pioneers. Rylee Milan had 20 points to lead all scorers and Mitchell Sampson contributed 17 points to win. Both teams get back on the floor tonight as they head to Rock Island High School for another makeup game. The Streaks will play three league games this week as they play their second of their three road games this week against Moline on Friday and then head to Geneseo on Saturday.
Girls Basketball
Sectional play started in Class 1A and 2A. The Knoxville Blue Bullets took on Eureka in the first semi-final from the 2A Farmington Sectional. The Blue Bullets season came to an end with a 54-47 loss to the Hornets. Lauren Kavanaugh led all scorers in the game for Knoxville with 24 points. The Blue Bullets end the season with a record of (26-8). Eureka will play the Midwest Central/Delavan co-op on Thursday for the sectional championship. They defeated the 8th seeded Cinderella West Hancock Titans 41-25.
It was a battle of Prairieland conference teams in the BPC 1A Sectional semi-final as Lewistown beat Brimfield 53-50 in a semi-final matchup in Bushnell. Lewiston, now (29-4) got 20 points Anna Hefren. Brimfield was led by Kamryn Cuevas with 20 points as well. Brimfield ends the year at (24-9). In the other semi, Princeville beat Brown County 64-39. Lacy Waid had 18 points and 18 rebounds for Princeville. The Lady Princes are now (30-4).
The Class 3A and 4A girls basketball teams got their regionals underway, Quincy Notre Dame blew out the host Macomb Lady Bombers 90-54 in the 3A Macomb Regional. QND will now play Dunlap at 6:00 in the first regional semi-final at 6:00, followed by the Galesburg/Canton game at 7:30. The Regional is being played at the Washington Street Gym in Macomb.
Junior High
The Monmouth-Roseville 7th and 8th grade Lady Titan volleyball teams traveled to Rockridge where they took on the Rockets in a pair of Prairieland Conference matches. The Titan 7th grade lost to the Rockets 25-13, 25-23. McKinley Rexroat had 9 service points, including 5 aces. Monmouth-Roseville is now (7-8) overall and the Titans have a record of (3-6) in the Prairieland. The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 8th graders also fell to the Rockets 25-10, 25-23. Karleigh Ashby had 9 kills and 3 blocks. Rileigh Ewing dished out 7 assists. Monmouth-Roseville is now (3-12) overall and (1-8) in the Prairieland Conference. Both teams are at home for the final time tomorrow night at Monmouth-Roseville Junior High in Roseville. The 7th grade match will start the night at 5:30.
