Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 14th, 2018

Boys Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team hosted the Farmington Farmers for a non-conference matchup at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The Farmers took control from the opening tip and got a 60-28 win over the Titans to improve to (22-3) overall on the season. The Titans were led in scoring by Nick Kelley with eight points. Monmouth-Roseville is now (13-10) on the year. The Farmers put 10 players in the scoring column led by Jacob Uryasz with 11 points. Farmington’s JV team also got a win over Monmouth-Roseville 59-44. Jakob Thomas had 13 and Conner Olson had 10 for the Titans.

The United Red Storm boys took on Princeville on the road in Lincoln Trail Conference action. The Storm trailed 44-36 entering the fourth quarter before furiously rallying in the 4th quarter and eventually falling 57-54. Adam Johnson led United with 16 points. Toby Whitsitt and Ethan Chenault were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.

In other LTC contests last night, it was Mercer County remaining unbeaten in the league with an 87-54 win over West Central. Landon Beelman led the Heat in the loss with 15 points. Quinton King led Mercer County, now (23-5) overall and (8-0) in the Lincoln Trail, with 21 points.

Also, Ridgewood beat Stark County 64-35. Briar Greenman had 22 for Ridgewood. Travis Kane chipped in with 16.

Annawan blew out ROWVA/Williamsfield 83-39 and Wethersfield also had no trouble with Galva 81-62.

In the Prairieland Conference, A-Town loses to Brimfield 69-60. Both teams combined for 74 free throw attempts in the physical game. Graham Struhs, Hunter Darst and Ryan Adolphson each scored 12 points to lead A-Town.

Jason Housenga led BPC to an 81-29 win over North Fulton. Devin Yocum became BPC’s all-time leading scorer in the game, breaking a record that has stood since 1989. Housenga led the Spartans with 21 points in the win.

Macomb beat Payson-Seymour 44-30 for its 10th straight win. Carter Fayhee led all scorers with 14 points.

The Galeburg Silver Streak boys basketball team trailed by 15 points in the 3rd quarter and 55-50 late in their WB6 makeup game at Rock Island but came back to defeat the Rocks 60-58. Cornell Dotson led Galesburg with 15 points and Andrew Anderson contributed 14 to the win. Dotson’s two free throws with .8 seconds left in the game were the winning points for the Streaks. Galesburg is now (20-8) on the season. Jamir Price led Rocky with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, almost recording a triple-double. The Streaks are still mathematically alive to at least share the Western Big Six Conference title. They are (5-3) in league play with two games to go. Quincy leads the conference at (7-1). Galesburg ends their conference schedule with their 3rd conference game of the week on Friday at Moline and then travel to Quincy a week from Friday. Besides the matchup with the Silver Streaks, Quincy has a home game against United Township this Friday.

Junior High

The Lombard 8th grade Lady Zephyr volleyball team got a victory last night over their cross town rival, Churchill in three sets. Leading the way for the Zephyrs was Kendra Coon with 17 points and 6 assists. Abby Endthoff led the team with 6 kills. Faith Brill led the defense with 5 digs.
