Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 21st., 2018

Boys Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team traveled to Knoxville for a Class 2A Regional semi-final matchup with the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs. In a game that saw neither team lead by more than 6 points throughtout, the Chiefs made enough plays down the stretch to escape with a 66-63 overtime win over the Titans. Nick Kelley led Monmouth-Roseville with 18 points. Jamonny Skinner, who fouled out late early in overtime, chipped in with 13 points. The Titans end the season at (15-11) and the Chiefs move on to Friday night’s championship game with a record of (23-6). They face the Farmington Farmers at 7:00 at Knoxville High School.

The Farmington Farmers had no trouble with the United Red Storm in the first game of the night at Knoxville. The Farmers shutout the Red Storm 25-0 in the second quarter on their way to an 82-30 semi-final win. The Red Storm were led by Adam Johnson with nine points. Farmington, who improved to (24-3) with the victory, were led by 16 points from Jakob Uryasz and Nick Johnson. United ends the season at (10-23), improving from (2-28) a year ago.

In other 2A regional semi-final contests, Mercer County defeats Orion 57-43 in the Rockridge High School Regional. The Golden Eagles were led by Jordan Metcalf with 16 points. Mercer County is now (24-6) and will play the winner of tonight’s game between (13-13) Alleman and (10-16) Rockridge in Friday night’s championship at Rockridge High School.

In Class 1A, in the Galva Regional, it was Annawan over Ridgewood 68-47. The winning Braves were led by Ben Buresh’s 16 points and Owen Lanwehr’s 14 points. Briar Greenman led Ridgewood with 20 points to close out his career with the Spartans as the all-time leading scorer at Alwood High School.

The A-Town Tornadoes beat Peoria Chrisitan in the second quarterfinal from Brimfield. Ryan Adolphson and Hunter Darst were in double figures for A-Town with 13 and 12 points respectively. It was Elmwood over North Fulton in the first game of the night 62-39. Tonight, Peoria Quest and Brimfield play at 6:00, with the A-Town/Elmwood game at 7:30.
