Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 22nd, 2018

Boys Basketball

The A-Town Tornado boys basketball team will play for a Class 1A regional championship tomorrow night in Brimfield. The 5th seeded Tornadoes beat 3-seed Elmwood 46-42 in overtime. The game was tied at 22 at the half but A-Town would trail 35-29 heading to the fourth quarter. The Tornadoes hold the Trojans to two points in the period to send the game to overtime where they outscored Elmwood 9-5 in the extra frame. Graham Struhs led A-Town with 15 points and Hunter Darst added 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists. The Tornadoes will play state-ranked Peoria Quest, who also had to comeback in their 51-46 win over the host Brimfield Indians. A-Town is now (18-9) on the season, while the Quest Gators are (23-7). The championship game is set for 7:00 at Brimfield High School tomorrow night.

In other 1A Regional semi-finals games last night, Galva’s season came to an end with a 43-40 loss to the Princeville Princes in the Galva Regional. Cooper Hoxworth led Galva with 20 points.

Jax Hiel led BPC in their 47-39 win over Delavan in the Lewistown Regional and Lewistown fell to Illini Bluffs 47-33 in the second semi-final from Lewistown. (23-4) BPC and (24-5) Illini Bluffs will play for a regional title tomorrow night at Lewistown High School.

In the Class 2A regional semi-finals from Havana, it was West Hancock having no trouble with the host Ducks. The Titans move to (27-2) on the season with a 70-46 win. The Titans will now face their West Central Conference North Division rival Illini West Chargers in the regional championship tomorrow night. The Chargers got a 52-51 upset win over Tremont. A Jackson Porter 3-pointer late in that game was the difference there.

The Alleman Pioneers defeated Rockridge 45-27 in the Rockridge Regional semis. That sets up an Alleman-Mercer County final tomorrow night at Rockridge High School.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville junior high 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams hosted ROWVA in Roseville last night for the final home matches of the season. 7th grade Titans hosted ROWVA for their last regular home matches. The 7th grade Titans won in three sets, 25-19, 21-25, 15-6. Lexi Finnicum led the way for Monmouth-Roseville with 14 service points, including 7 aces. The 7th grade’s record is 8-9 and conference record is 3-8. Next game for the 7th grade will be a regional matchup with Mercer County in Joy on Saturday morning at 10:00.
The 8th grade Lady Titans beat Rowva 25-11, 26-24. Cristina Dilley and Macy Norris had 3 kills each. Monmouth-Roseville ends the regular season at (5-14). The next match for the 8th grade will be at regionals on Saturday March 3rd.
Illinois takes a shot at number-nine Purdue tonight at the State Farm Center. The Fighting Illini are coming off a 20-point loss to Michigan State that sent them to 13-and-16 and 3-and-13 in the Big Ten. Purdue is 24-and-5 and 13-and-3.
