Boys Basketball

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys basketball team got their postseason off to a good start with a 69-52 win over IVC in the Class 3A Dunlap Regional semi-finals. The Streaks led 33-15 at the halftime horn but the Grey Ghosts would cut the deficit to single digits in the fourth quarter before Galesburg put the game away for good late. Khalil Hodge scored a team-high 20 points for the Silver Streaks, now (22-10) on the season. Cornell Dotson was right behind Hodge with 19 points, including four 3-pointers. With the win, Galesburg head coach Mike Reynolds won his 200th game in his 10 years with the Streak boys basketball program. The Streaks will now play the winner of tonight’s (20-9) Sterling vs. (9-22) Dunlap contest at 7:00 on Friday night at Dunlap High School.

The Macomb Bombers gave Peoria Manual Regional top-seed Morton all they could handle in their semi-final matchup at Manual High School. The Bombers would eventually fall 37-28.

In Class 4A, the United Township Panther’s season ended with a 51-38 loss to the Class 4A’s 7th ranked team in the state, Normal West. Delaney Little led UT with 12 points. The Panthers end the season with a record of (13-15). Rock Island takes on Bloomington tonight at 7:00 at Rock Island High School.
The Quincy Blue Devils will play for a regional championship on Friday at Quincy High School. The Blue Devils beat Collinsville 51-37 behind 24 points from Aaron Shoot. Quincy, now (22-4), will play the winner of tonight’s matchup between Alton and Chatham Glenwood in Friday night’s regional championship game.

Switching over to Class 1A, Annawan had no trouble with Mooseheart. The Braves win by 20 points, 53-33 to get their 28th win against just three losses. With a win by Wethersfield tonight over Aurora Christian, that would setup an all-Lincoln Trail Conference sectional championship game on Friday night. In the Abingdon-Avon Sectional, it was Brown County over Illini Bluffs 64-59. BC will play the winner of tonight’s great matchupu of state-ranked teams, (28-2) Payson Seymour vs. (24-7) Peoria Quest on Friday night.
