Markey Dishes Latest on District 235

West Central School District 235 held a school board meeting on Wednesday night. Superintendent Paula Markey shared great news about a handful of students from around the district, including an incredible opportunity for a 7th grade student:

“One of our 7th grade students, Kaiden Droste, has been selected to lead the Oath of Athletes at the state track meet on Friday, May 11, before the competition begins. Usually that honor goes to a male and female student who are returning with the most medals from the previous year. That’s a pretty big honor to be given, so we’re very proud of Kaiden for that and want to recognize him,” Markey said.

West Central’s WYSE Team will also be moving on to Sectionals with a great showing in their latest competition. Riley Peterson and Laine Gholson took home 1st place honors in Engineering Graphics and Computer Science categories respectively. Three other members of the WYSE Team – Tori Olson, Jenna Robertson, and Logan King – will also move on to the Sectional competition at Knox College next month.

Markey also touched on the future of a building in the district located in Media. After taking storm damage last year, District 235 is looking to put the building – formerly Southern Jr. High School – up for bid. That resolution will be acted on at the next District 235 board meeting which is scheduled for Mar. 21.
