The month of February is American Heart Health Month, and OSF Holy Family Medical Center is hosting a women’s health event at the 1st Street Armoury. The event will take place Sat., Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. Tina Canada, certified diabetes educator, explains:

“We’re gonna have Kalena Williams, our behavioral health therapist, is going to be doing some things on destressing. We’re going to have some pampering events. I know we’re gonna have some healthy snacks to hand out, along with the recipe for that. We’re gonna have some giveaways. We’re gonna have Dr. Stapleton will be speaking, it’s just gonna be a short talk. We’re in a room off to the side so people can speak with him,” Canada said.

There will also be free A1C screenings and cholesterol screenings. According to the CDC, a normal A1C level is 4-5.5%. A prediabetes range is 5.7-6.4%, while a level of 6.5% and above indicates the person does have diabetes.

For more information, please contact Tina Canada at the hospital at (309) 734-1424.
