One of the most influential plays of the 1990s is coming to Monmouth College this weekend – The Pitchfork Disney.

The production, which is directed by Monmouth College Theatre professor Doug Rankin, will be performed at the Fusion Theatre Feb. 22-24 starting at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 25, the show will start at 2 p.m. Rankin says the cast of four has been primed and ready to go for some time:

“They’ve been very respectful. They have really worked with each other and played on each other to try to get through this because there are some scenes, when I was an actor in college, I would not have been comfortable doing. It has exceeded my expectations by about 1,000 percent,” Rankin stated.

Written in 1992 by British storyteller Philip Ridley, the play has influenced other storytellers such as Quentin Tarantino. The Pitchfork Disney is widely regarded as the first “in-yer-face” style play. This form of storytelling is described as vulgar, shocking, and usually presents controversial material on stage to keep their audiences engaged.

You must be 16 or older to attend the play. The show will last two hours with a 10-minute intermission. Rankin urges folks from the community to come check out what an “in-yer-face” play is all about:

“If you haven’t been to the Fusion, I hope you come. The Fusion means the fusion between the college and the community, and it’s meant for not just people at the college, we’re looking for people from all over. It’s inexpensive tickets, just a couple hours of your time, and I think you’ll be really energized. I hope you can stop by,” Rankin said.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, and $6 for students and faculty with a Monmouth College ID. For more information, visit monmouthcollege.edu/box-office.
