WIAR Thankful for Generosity of Community

Western Illinois Animal Rescue will be holding a fundraiser at the end of March. The family-friendly fundraiser will be held on Mar. 31 at the VFW in Monmouth. The event will start at 4 p.m. and feature food, prizes, a silent auction, a live band, and more. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the WIAR. Phil Cooper with the organization shared why this fundraiser is so important to the functionality of Western Illinois Animal Rescue:

“I think last year we adopted 60 dogs and well over 100 cats. Basically, our mission, our goal, is to take animals that are in stressful situations or dangerous situations and get them into homes where we know they are going to be safe,” Cooper said.

WIAR has been working on the construction of a new building for the animal shelter on West Harlem Avenue in Monmouth. The proceeds from this event will help with costs associated with that construction among other things. Cooper realizes how important the animal lovers of Monmouth are to the pulse of the organization:

“We are 100 percent funded by the heartfelt caring of this community, and we’re extremely grateful for that. We have no paid staff. Everybody that is there is there because that is what they love to do – help animals. Without the support of the community, it would have been virtually impossible to do what we have been able to accomplish,” he said.
