GALESBURG — Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball players Madison Lowe (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) and Willow Porter (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County) have earned All-Arrowhead Conference honors for their play for the Chargers this season.

Lowe, a 5-foot-8 sophomore forward, earned first-team honors for the second straight season, and Porter, a 6-foot sophomore forward, was a second-team selection.

A starter in all 10 of the Chargers’ Arrowhead contests, Lowe led Sandburg in scoring (14.6 points per game), field goals (51), field goal percentage (41.8 percent) and 3-pointers (27) against conference opponents. She also was second among Chargers in free-throw percentage (85 percent) and rebounds (5.6 per game) while totaling 16 assists and 19 steals.

One of the top 3-point shooters in the country, Lowe hit at least one 3 in nine of 10 conference games and made multiple 3s seven times. She scored in double digits in eight Arrowhead matchups, reaching at least 15 points on seven occasions. She went 7 of 12 from beyond the arc and scored 27 points in the Chargers’ victory over conference co-champion Highland on Feb. 20 and recorded a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) on Feb. 22 against Kishwaukee in her final home game as a Charger.

Last year’s conference co-MVP, Lowe finished her Sandburg career as a two-time first-team All-Arrowhead pick, two-time All-Region IV selection and two-time NJCAA All-America nominee.

A versatile post player, Porter finished second on the team to Lowe in scoring (10.5 points per game), field goals (38) and field goal percentage (41.3 percent) in conference games. She also averaged 4.1 rebounds, picked up 12 steals and had a team-best 13 blocks while starting all 10 league contests.

Porter had 18 points (on 8-of-16 shooting) and nine rebounds in the Chargers’ game Feb. 13 at Illinois Valley, with both of those marks tying her career highs at the time. Porter played her best basketball in the second half of the conference season, averaging 11.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in her final five Arrowhead games.
