Macomb’s Whitford Signs With Sandburg Women’s Basketball

GALESBURG — Sophie Whitford of Macomb High School has signed to play next season for the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team.

Whitford averaged 8.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals and an assist per game for the Bombers this season while shooting 50 percent from the field. She hit 45 3-pointers as a senior for Macomb in its first year running “The System.” Whitford’s 100 career 3s rank second all-time in Macomb history.

Whitford joins a Chargers program that has ranked in the top five in NJCAA Division II in both 3-point makes and attempts two of the last three seasons.
