Here’s your local high school Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 20th:

Your United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is freshman softball player, Mallory Brunswig. All Mallory did on her first swing in her high school career is blast a 2-run homerun. She was 2-for-5 in her first two games with 2 rbis, scoring one run and even stealing a base for good measure.

Your Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore softball player, Lily Cundiff. Lily blasted a 2-run home run in her first at-bat of the season against Ridgewood in the season opener. It was Lily’s first career round-tripper and it was an important one as it pulled her team to within a run of the Spartans.

Your A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls track and field athlete, Lakin Robinson. Lakin placed 9th in the high jump event at the Galesburg Silver Streak Invitational at Monmouth College. She cleared 4′ 8″ and defeated many jumpers from 2A and 3A schools along the way.

Your Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior track and field standout, Quantrell Polk. Quantrell pulled double duty at the recent Galesburg Last Chance Meet at Monmouth College. He placed 2nd in the long jump event and then backed that up with a 6th in the triple jump.

Your West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys track and field long distrance runner, Freeman Shoemaker. Freeman picked up where his fantastic cross country season in the fall left off with a great performance at the Lincoln Trail Conference Indoor Meet at Knox College. He placed 1st in the 800 meter run and followed that with a 3rd place finish in the 1600 meter run.
