WIRC-CAA & Local Colleges Join Forces Against Sexual Violence

Share

The Western Illinois Regional Council and Community Action Agency has a series of events coming up that coincide with Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Carl Sandburg College, Knox College, and Monmouth College will partner with the organization for the Clothesline Project and Take Back the Night events from Apr. 16-18. Diane Mayfield with WIRC explains the purpose behind the Clothesline Project:

“Our Clothesline Project is where we hang a bunch of t-shirts; they’re all made by victims. There’s different colors that symbolize different things: sexual assault against men, sexual assault against children, domestic violence. That is also included in there. We setup anywhere between 50 and 200 t-shirts depending on the space that we have,” she said.

Carl Sandburg College will host the first installment of the Clothesline Project on Apr. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, followed by the Take Back the Night from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Take Back the Night is a marching event that works to raise awareness and seeks to end all forms of sexual violence.

Knox College and Monmouth College will also host the pair of sexual assault awareness events on Apr. 18 and 19 respectively.
