Knox College Softball Falls to Cornell in Doubleheader

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Cornell on Thursday afternoon.

Knox (4-16, 0-6 MWC) fell behind early in game one when the Rams scored four runs in each of the first two innings. Cornell added another run in the third, but the Prairie Fire came roaring back with four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 12-8. The Rams set Knox down in the seventh to secure the victory.

In game two, Cornell scored one run in the first and tacked on another in the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Rams added three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to earn the five-inning win.

Kenzie Funk, Katy Coseglia, Emily Stevenson, and Clare Hensley each tallied a pair of hits on the day. Stevenson finished with four RBI to lead the Prairie Fire. Kristen Koviekis also drove in a pair, while Funk and Casey Hipp each added an RBI. Koviekis, Stevenson, and Hensley also doubled in the game.

Knox will travel to Lake Forest on April 15 for a conference doubleheader.
