Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for April 18th, 2018

Baseball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan baseball team remained unbeaten on the season at (8-0) and in the West Central Conference North Division at (2-0) with a 7-2 win over Camp Point Central last night at Sunny Lane Field in Monmouth. It was CPC scoring first in the top of the 3rd inning with a solo unearned run off Monmouth-Roseville starting pitcher Nick Corman. The Titans would answer in the bottom of the 3rd and take a lead they would not relinquish. After two outs, a pair of infield errors by the visting Panthers led to a 2-run double by Jordan Cheek. Monmouth-Roseville extended the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the 5th on another rbi by Cheek and a run-scoring single by JC Sells. The Titans would tack on three insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th on back-to-back rbi singles by Corman and Lane Frieden. Corman gets the pitching win, going 5.1 innings, scattering five hits and no earned runs. He struck out eight batters and issued just two walks. Addison Fletcher came on in relief in the top of the sixth, and with the bases loaded and one out, proceeded to strike out the next two batters. Fletcher would get the save for the Titans. Weather permitting, Monmouth-Roseville gets back on the field this afternoon with a non-conference game against Farmington at Sunny Lane Field at 4:30.

The West Central Heat baseball team dropped a pair of Lincoln Trail Conference games to Annawan/Wethersfield. The Heat lose game one, 17-5. Nathan Bigger had three rbis for West Central. Game two was a lot closer but the Heat lose to the Titans 8-3. Dallas Cramer was 3-for-4 for the Heat to lead the West Central offense.

The Galesburg Silver Streak baseball team loses a late lead to Morton at Sundberg Field in Galeburg. The Streaks led 3-0 at the end of the fifth inning but give up five runs in the top of the 6th to lose 5-3. Nick Fields led the Galesburg offense with two rbis. Three Galesburg errors lead to all the Morton runs being unearned. Austin Jones is the hard-luck loser on the mound for Galesburg.

The Galesburg Silver Streak sophomore baseball team lost to Dunlap last night, 11-0. The Streaks were only able to collect 3 hits, 2 of which came in the first inning. For Galesburg, Nikko Deligiannis was 2-for-2 at the plate and Adam Stewart was 1-2 with a leadoff double.

The Galesburg freshman baseball team got a win over United Township. Kyle Shaw got the pitching win for the Silver Streaks. John Stipp led the Galesburg offense with 3 hits. The Streaks have won 3 games in a row and are now (5-2) on the season.

The A-Town Tornado baseball team ran their winning streak to eight games with a 5-0 non-conference win over Galva. Graham Struhs was 2-for-4 for A-Town with a pair rbis. Struhs and Jacob Repp team up for the shutout win with Struhs getting the official win, as he only gives up one hit in 6.1 innings, while striking out five hitters.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet baseball team loses to Peoria Heights in a Prairieland matchup in Knoxville. Cade Shonkwiler was 2-for-4 for the Bullets.

Softball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan softball team fell to Camp Point Central 15-0 at Monmouth Park. Jazmin Pinedo had the lone hit for the Titans as outstanding pitcher, Jacey Nall, struck out ten batters in five innings.

The West Central softball team split with Annawan/Wethersfield. The Heat lost game one 8-3 and were led by Reagan Spence and Jessica Smith’s two hits apiece. Spence had two rbis. West Central wins game two 7-3. Emily Johnson was 3-for-3 for West Central. Spence gets the pitching win, going seven innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs with five strikeouts.

The A-Town Lady Tornadoes beat Galva 14-0. Tori Adolphson pitched a no-hitter for A-Town.

The Knoxville softball team was beaten by Lewistown 10-1. Kayden Mines and Tori Secrist each had two hits for Knoxville.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls soccer team was held to one shot on goal in a 4-0 Western Big Six Conference loss to Moline in the Quad Cities.
