Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for April 30th, 2018

Baseball

The West Central Conference North Division baseball race got a little more interesting as the Macomb Bombers beat the Monmouth-Roseville Titans 14-5 at Sunny Lane Field on Saturday morning. The Bombers jumped ahead early with a 2-run top of the first and then extended their throughout until the score reached 14-1 heading to the bottom of the 6th. The Titans would not go quietly scoring four runs in the bottom of the 6th to extend the game another inning. Macomb pounded out 16 hits against the Monmouth-Roseville pitching staff, including a 3-run home run by Gunnar Lantz. Monmouth-Roseville was led at the plate by two hits apiece by Lane Frieden and Addison Fletcher. Rylan Heinrich had a 2-rbi double in the game for the Titans as well. Monmouth-Roseville still holds the division title in their own destiny at (4-1). The Bombers are now (5-2) in the North Division with one game remaining….another date with Monmouth-Roseville in Macomb on Friday. The Titans can clinch at least a share of the title with a win over West Hancock in a makeup game tonight at Sunny Lane Field at 4:30.

The Galesburg Silver Streak baseball team also hold the Western Big Six Conference championship in their own hands as well. The Streaks hosted Quincy on Saturday for a conference double header. Galesburg would sweep the Blue Devils to get to (6-2) in conference play. The Silver Streaks trailed 5-4 going to the bottom of the 6th and score five runs to win game one 9-5 with Nick Fields getting the complete game victory. Fields goes all 7 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs while getting 11 strikeouts and allowing no walks. Renegade Schott goes 1-for-4 with two rbis and a double. It was Schotts turn on the mound in game two. He also goes the distance, getting a 4-hit shutout as Galesburg wins 4-0. Like Fields, he also struck out 11 Blue Devil hitters. Schott also helped himself out at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an rbi. Galesburg is now (6-2) in the Big 6. Moline leads the way at (7-1) after splitting a pair of games with Alleman on Saturday. The Silver Streaks and Moline will play for the conference championship on Saturday in Moline. The double header starts at 11:00 at Moline High School.

The A-Town Tornado baseball team lost 10-4 to Rushville/Industry on Saturday. Hunter Darst went 2-for-4 for A-town, scoring two runs.

The Knoxville Blue Bullets beat Farmington 8-6. Cade Shonkwiler was 3-for-3 with an rbi for Knoxville. Case Hennenfent had two rbis as well for the Blue Bullets.

Softball

The Silver Streak softball team split a double header in Quincy on Saturday. The Streaks win game one 5-2. April White was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. Andrea Sampson also blasted a homer in the game as well. Galesburg loses game two 6-4. Bailee Hamilton and Kaityln Pendergast each had two hits for Galesburg, who are now (2-6) in the Western Big Six Conference.
