Here’s your local high school Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 10th:
Your Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior softball player, Cora Neal. Cora blasted her first home run of the season in the first game of a West Central Conference double header against West Hancock. She ended the game 2-for-3 at the plate and currently leads her team in hits and batting average.
Your United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior softball player, Breanna Shea. Breanna walked-off a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning against Lincoln Trail Conference rival West Central. She’s currently hitting over .400 for the season and is in the top-5 on the team in slugging percentage.
Your West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman softball player, Megan Schaley. Megan’s bat is starting to heat up for head coach, Scott Swiler. In her two games from last week, she was 3-for-7 at the plate and showed her speed with a pair of stolen bases. Going into this week, Megan has the 2nd most steals on the team.
Your A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Gavin Waters. Gavin was a big contributor to a recent 4-game winning streak for the Tornadoes. He had a pair of pitching wins and has tossed in a save for good measure as well. During the streak, he has thrown 13 innings, giving up only 1 earned run on just 8 hits. Gavin has struck out 23 batters during that span.
Your Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls track and field athlete, Emily Meinert. Emily was busy racking up top-2 finishes at the recent Silver Streak Invitational. She placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdle event and then was a part of two, 2nd place finishing relays later in the evening.
