MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth’s Grant Myers’ (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) not only became the Fighting Scots first baseball All-American, he’s done it twice this week after the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) named him to their first team Thursday night.
Myers – an outfielder – was named a first team ABCA/Rawlings All-American after garnering All-American honor roll status from D3baseball.com on Wednesday to become the first Monmouth baseball player to earn All-American status. The senior slugger earlier this week was selected as the ABCA/Rawlings Central Region Player of the Year after hitting a robust .453 – 10th-best in the nation – and capped his season with a 7-for-14 performance at last week’s Sauget Regional. His .767 slugging percentage ranks him 11th nationally.
Saving his best for last, in his final season Myers broke the Scots’ program season records for hits (72), RBIs (54) and total bases (122). He finished his career in the top 10 of nine offensive categories and tied the career triples record, legging out 11 three-baggers to tie head coach Alan Betourne for the program lead. His 17 homeruns was just one shy of the career mark shared by Taylor Thiel and Craig Foxall and his 111 RBIs was just two off the mark set by Ryan Stubler. Myers ends his Fighting Scots’ career with a .365 batting average – the 10th highest in program history.
