Softball

The Galesburg Silver Streak softball team had the daunting task of taking on (30-5) and top-seeded Peoria Notre Dame in the Dunlap regional semis. Galesburg gave the Irish all they could handle….and more. The Lady Streaks beat PND 5-3 in nine innings to move on to the regional championship game on Saturday morning at 11:00 at Dunlap High School. A 2-run home run by Lauren Campbell in the top of the 5th inning tied the game at 3-all, setting the stage for a Bailee Hamilton rbi single in the top of the 9th that gave the Silver Streaks the eventual winning run. Macey Bland went 3-for-5, scoring two runs for Galesburg. Emily Blucker went all nine innings in the circle for the Streaks, holding a powerful PND offense to three hits and no earned runs. She struck out four batters. Galesburg will now play Western Big Six Conference foe, Rock Island Alleman on Saturday for the rights to move on to next week’s Washington Sectional. Alleman was a 9-1 winner over Dunlap in the second game in Dunlap last night.

In 1A sectional softball, North Fulton beat perrennial power Princeville 3-1 in Abingdon. North Fulton plays Prairieland Conference foe, Lewistown on Saturday with the winner moving on to the Sterling Super Sectional on Monday. Also in 2A softball, Brimfield/Elmwood made it 2-for-2 with the baseball team, beating Illini West 3-1. That sets up a great sectional championship between the Lady Indians and Rockridge on Saturday morning in Oregon.

Baseball

The Galesburg Silver Streak baseball team was also an underdog, seed-wise, in their matchup with Limestone in the Geneseo 3A regional semi-final. And the Streaks also come up with a close victory, beating the Rockets 3-1 behind a total team effort on the mound. Nolan Jenkins, Connor Aten and Renegade Schott combine for the 5-hitter. Aten gets the official win with Schott getting the save. Tied at 1-1 in the top of the 6th inning, Nikko Delagiannis’ rbi single and Clark Hawkins bases-loaded walk gave Galesburg all the runs they would need to go on for the semi-final win. Along with the pitching win, Aten was also 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two of the three Streak runs. The (20-14) Silver Streaks will take on (27-7) Dunlap at Geneseo’s Richmond Hill Athletic Complex at 11:00 on Saturday morning with the winner moving on to the Washington High School Sectional starting on Wednesday afternoon.

In other Western Big Six Conference action, the Quincy Blue Devil baseball team dropped a 5-0 game to (32-1) O’Fallon in Class 4A and in softball regional play, Moline defeated United Township in the Moline 4A regional semi-finals. The Maroons will play Rock Island on Saturday morning at Moline High School.

Brimfield/Elmwood beat Illini West 10-8 to move on to the Sherrard Sectional championship on Saturday. The Indians will battle Orion, who defeated Eureka 4-0. The Alleman Pioneers beat West Carroll 15-0 in Fulton.
