Track and Field
Bushnell was the site for the annual Bushnell Prairie City/West Prairie Sparclone Girls Invitational track and field meet. The host Sparclones won the team title. A-Town was 4th in the final team standings, United was 10th and West Central was 11th out 13 team teams participating. Danielle Bowling was the top finisher for United, taking 4th in the 3200 meter run. Sadie Lenz won the triple jump for West Central, with Corinne Booton finishing 4th in the 800. For the A-Town Lady Tornadoes, Emma Ginther won the long jump and then teamed up with Peyton Florine, Lakin Robinson and Mary Grace-Guthrie to win the 4×200 meter relay. Florine also took 2nd in the long jump and Natalie Kern crossed the finish line first in the 3200 meter run. For the meet champion Sparclones, Taylor Larson had a fantastic meet, winning the 200 and 400 meter dashes, placing second in the 100 meter race and being a part of the 4×100 meter relay team the took first place as well.
Baseball
Crazy high school baseball game last night at Sunny Lane Field in Monmouth between the Orion Chargers and the Monmouth-Roseville Titans . The contest featured many controversial calls and two coaches tossed by the home plate umpire. In the end, the Chargers defeat the Titans 8-7. The Titans had the the tying run thrown out at home plate on the final play of the game. Orion scored four runs in the first inning on three Titan errors. The score remained 4-0 until the bottom of the 4th inning. That’s when the Titans would finally dent the scoreboard with a pair of runs and had the tying runs on 2nd and 3rd base with no outs but could not push anymore runs across the plate. After another four-run top of the 6th inning by Orion, Monmouth-Roseville would mount another comback in the 6th and 7th innings. A 2-run single by Addison Fletcher in the 6th made the score 8-6 heading to the 7th. A lead-off walk in the Titan half of the bottom of the 7th started the comeback attempt. That walk would come around to score in the next at-bat on a Koby Killey’s double. After a flyout and a strikeout, pinch-runner Reese Kane would get thrown out at home on a single by Jack Thompson. The initial tag on Kane was called safe but a heads-up play by the Orion catcher resulted in the 2nd tag being called out. The Titans are now (12-5) overall and Orion improves to (14-6). The two teams could meet again in the postseason as both were awarded the Number one and two seeds in the upcoming playoffs.
The United Red Storm baseball team lost to Kewanee 7-3. The Storm were led by Adam Johnson’s 2-for-4 day at the plate. Dylan Cheline had 2 rbis for United as well.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes defeated Peoria Heights 12-2.
The Knoxville Blue Bullets were all over South Fulton 19-1. Logan Kavanaugh was 2-for-2 with four rbis. Noah Harlan also had a pair of hits, a home run and knocked four runs in as well. Jason Hise was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Case Hennenfent got the pitching win, going five innings, giving up only one hit and no earned runs. He struck out 11 Rebel hitters.
Softball
In IHSA softball, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans fell to Lewistown 16-2. Kaitlyn Weir and Chloe Russell had the lone hits for the Titans.
The Galesburg Silver Streaks lost to state-ranked Rockridge in a close one. The Streaks fall 3-1 to the Rockets. Bailee Hamilton was 3-for-3 for Galesburg. She had the only rbi for the Streaks. Lauren Campbell was 2-for-3 for Galesburg as well.
The West Central Heat swept a pair of Lincoln Trail Conference games against ROWVA/Williamsfield. The Heat win game one 7-6 in 10 innings. Mady Reed was 3-for-5 with two triples for West Central. Carley Lafary and Courtney Torrance each had two rbis. Reagan Spence went all 10 innings for West Central to get the pitching win. The Heat win game two 9-2. Megan McIntire was 2-for-4 with three rbis. Jessica Smith was 3-for-3 with two rbis.
Soccer
The Galesburg Silver Streak girls soccer team dropped an 11-1 decision to Alleman. Megan Lingafelter had the lone goal on a penalty kick for the Streaks.
Junior High
The Prairieland Conference Track and Field Championships were moved to Rockridge from the original site of Sherrard. Three Monmouth-Roseville teams claimed conference titles. The Titan 7th and 8th grade boys won their divisions with the Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade girls winning and the 8th grade girls finishing three points behind Knoxville. Individual conference champs for the 7th grade boys included Omar Carillo in the 800 meter run, Ashton Toal in the high jump and Ethan Davis in the discus toss. Toal and Carillo teamed up with Silas Braun and TJ Blasius to place first in the 4X400 meter relay. Cody Wilcox is the Prairieland champion in the 8th grade boys discus event. On the girls side, Lexi Finnicum placed first in the 7th grade discus. Two relay teams took first. Addie Switzer, Mariah Reading, Yoselim Hernandez and Chevelle Wolf all teamed up for wins in the 4X100 and 4X400 relay races. For the Titan 8th grade girls, Kendall Ferry won the discus with Karleigh Ashby winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Ashby teamed up with Kya Patterson, Kali Pollitt and Cally Tate for a victory in the 4X100 meter relay.
The Lincoln Trail Conference held their jr. high championships in Galva. The United Red Storm 7th gade boys claimed a team title with the 8th grade boys placing 5th as a team. The Red Storm 7th grade girls were 2nd and the 8th grade girls were 5th. The United 7th grade boys team had a plethora of conference champs. Individually, Abel Wilson won the 200 meter dash, Landon Burns was victorious in the 400 meter and Zain Velazquez crossed the finish line first in the 1600 meter run. Aiden Jenks is your shot put champ and Payton Crain was a 4-time winner. Crain won the high jump, long jump and was a part of 2 relay teams that placed first. In all, United won all three relay events. Jacob Dutton won the 8th grade discus with the 4X100 team of Dutton, Hollis Gooch, Caleb Copeland and Ethan Brown winning as well. For the United girls, Nyota (Nie-ohta) Feza (Fate-zuh) won the 200 meter dash and Isabella Colbrese claiming the discus event. Ellie Robinson won the 100 meter hurdles for the lone United 8th grade girls conference champion.
