Monmouth’s storybook season came to a close Saturday night in a 6-2 loss to No. 7 Webster in an elimination game at the NCAA Central Regional.

Starter Connor McDonald kept the Gorlocks at bay until Webster plated two runs in the fourth inning and added a three-run fifth. Webster parlayed two hits and an error into three runs in the fifth and added a solo run in the sixth to open a 6-0 lead before Monmouth countered in the bottom of the frame.

Matt Temaner opened the Monmouth half of the sixth with a base hit and moved to second on a Grant Myers’ single. Two batters later, Temaner scored the Scots’ first run on a Gorlock error before the side was retired.

Monmouth added another run in the seventh as Tyler Ulfig picked up his third hit of the game and later scored on Jake Starkey’s single into right center. That would be the Scots’ final run as Webster retired the final six batters to knock the Scots out of the tournament.

The Scots, who lose just four seniors wrap up the season with the most wins in program history and a 29-14-1 record.
