Monmouth gave top-ranked UW-Whitewater all the Warhawks could handle through the first half of the game before a five-run sixth led to a 12-1 win by UWW.

Whitewater outhit the Scots 15-7 and took advantage of a pair of Monmouth errors to open up the lead over the last three innings. The Scots plated their lone run in the top of the fifth when Jake Starkey’s base hit moved Christina Lett from first to third on a hit and run. Matt Temaner’s deep fly followed, driving in Lett to cut the Warhawk lead to 2-1. Starter Tyler McDonald was touched for six runs on 12 hits with six strikeouts and a walk. Grant Myers continued his torrid hitting with a 3-for-4 night.

The Scots will face Aurora Friday afternoon at 1:15 in an elimination game in the double elimination tournament. The Spartans dropped an 8-5 decision to Texas-Tyler. Friday’s contest marks the third time the Scots and Spartans have met in the postseason. Monmouth took two from Aurora in teh 2002 Monmouth Regional, knocking the Spartans out of the tournament.

All games from the Central Regional at Sauget, Ill., will be webcast.
