Monmouth-Roseville Track Finishing Season Strong

The track & field season for Monmouth-Roseville is coming to a close. The girls track season finished up this past weekend with Arika Hofmann capturing 11th in the state in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 19 seconds. The race was hotly contested according to Monmouth-Roseville Athletic Director Jeremy Adolphson:

“It was an incredibly tight race when you look at the results; I think it was 1.3 seconds from 5th place to 11th place where she was. Just shoulder-to-shoulder action there, a really good finish to the season for her,” he said.

The boys team also had a strong showing at their 2A Sectional meet at Dunlap. Monmouth-Roseville finished 4th overall out of 15 teams competing. Jamonny Skinner qualified for next weekend’s State Track Meet in Charleston capturing top-4 finishes in three events: long jump, triple jump, and 110-meter hurdles.

Skinner nearly missed qualifying in the triple jump because one of his other events, the 110-meter hurdles, was starting soon after the triple jump, and he had yet to qualify. So, Skinner took the matter into his own hands:

“He takes his 5th jump total, 2nd of the finals, and doesn’t get it. He walks over and I’m like, ‘They’re getting ready to do those hurdles in less than 10 minutes; your heat is going.’ He’s like, ‘Well, I’ll go see if I can cut in line.’ So he goes up there, talks to the ladies, and they say ‘Yep, you can go after this kid.’ He takes off, huge jump,” Adolphson stated.

The jump totaled 42 feet, 9 inches, clinching a 4th place finish and a trip to State. Skinner’s other totals were 21 feet, 4 inches in the long jump and 15.78 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.

Other Titans narrowly missed qualifying for a trip to Eastern Illinois University this weekend. Jacob Thomas, Devond Smith, Eric Sikorski, and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Smith, Lewis, C.J. Daniel, and Matthew Burris all finished in the top 5 for their respective events.
