Here’s your local high school Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 8th :
Your Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Devond Smith. Devond is a 3-time West Central Conference champion after a specatcular meet in Macomb. He placed first in the 200 meter dash and was a part of two relay teams that crossed the finish line first as well. In addition, Devond had a 3rd place finish in the 100 meter dash in the meet also.
Your United Red Storm Athlete of the Week sophomore baseball player, Dylan Cheline. In his team’s four games last week, Dylan was 8-for-14 at the plate for a .571 average. He also totaled 11 rbis, scored four runs and hit a triple. Dylan also blasted his first home run of the season for good measure.
Your West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior track and field athlete, Luke Ditsworth. Luke just missed being a 3-time conference champion at the recently completed Lincoln Trail Conference championship meet in Kewanee. He missed winning both of the 100 and 200 meter dashes by combined total of less than a second. Luke was also the runnerup in the long jump event as well.
Your A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is freshman long distance runner, Natalie Kern. Natalie was crowned the conference champ in the 3200 meter run in the recent Prairieland Conference championship meet in Lewistown. Her time of 13:34 was faster than the runnerup by a whopping 24 seconds. Earlier in the week, Natalie won the same event at the BPC/West Prairie Invite.
Your Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior track and field athlete, Daija Range. In an event she has dominated all spring, Daija claimed the Western Big Six Conference shot put championship on her home field at Galesburg High School. Her toss of 37′ 4″ was almost four feet further than the second place finisher.
Congrats to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors, MC Sport and More, McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank, Yemm Chevrolet Buick GMC Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram!!!!
