Packed Summer Schedule Ahead for Galesburg Parks & Rec

A busy summer is ahead for the parks & recreation department in Galesburg. Recreation Supervisor Chelsea Moberg previewed an event going on this weekend:

“This weekend, something that is near and dear to my heart, is the fishing derby. We are going to have out at the Lincoln Park a free fishing derby. There is a casting activity that starts at noon and then the derby starts at 1 o’clock. The first 500 participants will receive a goodie bag, and they will get a prize for the first fish that they catch,” she said.

Upwards of 700 people regularly attend the event, which will feature hot dogs and drinks for purchase courtesy of HyVee.

Moberg shared additional details about summer sports programs including tennis and softball. The tennis program will begin in June, is eligible for ages 4 to 18, and last for a total of seven weeks. Sign up for the parks & recreation softball league has already started, but those who would like to sign up late are encouraged to do so.
