The Monmouth American Legion Post 136 baseball team found themselves only trailing Moline Post 246 4-2 entering the top of the 7th inning. By the time the half inning was completed, Monmouth trailed 12-2 as Post 246 exploded for eight runs. for the 3rd time in as many games, Monmouth was involved in a pitching duel through six innings. Post 136 starter, Nick Corman scattered five hits through those six frames, allowing only three earned runs to a ballclub that included players from a High School team that had players from a (29-6) team this past spring. Corman gave way to Avery Leffler in the top of the 7th. Leffler, who hadn’t thrown in a live game since mid-May, had some trouble finding the strike zone and allowed five runs. Rylan Heinrich finished the inning, allowing three more runs, all unearned. Offensively for Monmouth, they totaled eight hits, led by Brannock McVey and Hunter Butler’s two hits each. McVey and Max Martin each had rbi doubles as well. Monmouth’s next outing will be Sunday afternoon as they welcome Abingdon to Sunny Lane Field for a double header starting at 1:00.

The Monmouth Post 136 Junior Legion team beat Macomb 12-2 in Macomb last night. Declan Flynn led Monmouth at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three rbis. Michael Brown got the pitching win, going five innings, giving up only two hits and no earned runs. He struck out six Macomb batters and walked three. Monmouth is now (1-1) on the season.

Oneida Post 727 split a pair of road games against Canton last night. Canton wins game one, 5-1. Adam Johnson led Oneida with a 2-for-4 performance. Oneida bounced back to get a win in the nightcap 12-1. Payton Browning, Jerrod Cortex and Gunner Spivey each had two hits in the game, with Cortes and Spivey driving in a pair of runs each. Spivey and Tucker Sams combined for the 3-hitter. Post 727 is off today before heading to a weekend tournament in Greenville starting tomorrow afternoon.
