Music Festival to Honor Late DuWayne Brooks

Share

The DuWayne Brooks Music Festival will be held this Saturday, June 23, at the Rivoli Theater in Monmouth. Musical performances, along with other acts such as a ventriloquist and magician, will be put on from 9 a.m. until “the musicians get too tired”, according to Dennis Brooks, which is usually around midnight.
Chris Brooks talks about the reasoning behind the Festival:

“The object of this festival is not only to bring awareness about diabetes, but to also raise awareness about music and the arts in general because there has been a lack of interest in music around in this area. This area used to be known as a music central,” he said.

Aside from music, the gathering will feature a bake sale, food, a silent and regular auction, 50/50 drawing, and more. All proceeds will be donated toward helping diabetes patients in the area.

After the passing of DuWayne Brooks in February, his brothers wanted to continue this event in his honor says Dennis:

“Even though he had passed in February and it made us fall behind, we figured he would want us to go on and do this. We’ve really got it together I think. Since he has passed, I’ve had to kind of step into his role, and I understand why he was crazy by the end of it,” Brooks said.
