Galesburg NAACP Supports Local Kids with Back-to-School Efforts

Share

Galesburg NAACP Branch #3016 is holding their annual Back-to-School Cookout at Kiwanis Park on Aug. 11. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will feature many vendors from Galesburg including: the Galesburg Police Department, Fire Department, Health Department, the Galesburg Public Library, and more.

Each summer, the organization raises money to buy backpacks for kids. Vice President of the Galesburg NAACP, Dwight White, talked about the goal for this year’s event:

“Last year, we gave out 75 (backpacks) and we ran out, so we didn’t get to give everyone one. This year, we’re shooting for 100. If anybody on the air wants to donate some money, get in contact with me: dwightwhite@gmail.com,” he said.

The event is open to the public. On top of vendors and free backpacks, free haircuts for kids will be provided by local hairdresser “J Jilla”.

To donate, contact Dwight White via email or mail your donation to: Galesburg NAACP Branch #3016, P.O. Box 248, Galesburg.
