Golf

It didn’t take long for new United Red Storm boys golf coach, Brooke Anderson, to get her first career win as the Red Storm beat Princeville 188-219 yesterday at United’s home course of Gibson Woods in Monmouth. Drew Brown took medalist honors with a 40. He was joined in the scoring column by Dhylan Hepner’s 47, Ian McVey’s 49 and Caleb Copeland’s 52.

Also in boys golf yesterday at Emerald Hill Golf Course, Sterling Newman shot a team score of 166 to best Ridgewood’s 176 and Princeton’s 198. Thomas Bumann led Ridgewood with a 38. Bill Bumann chipped in with a 44 and Ganon Greenman was close behind with a 45.

It was Mercer County over Orion in a tight one, 198-201 at Valley View Golf Course. Robby Holtschlag carded a 45 to lead the winner’s in that one.

The Macomb Bomber boys golf team placed 9th out of 22 schools at the Raider/Redbird Classic in Normal, Il. Eddie Burke shot a 78 to lead the Bombers.

Junior High

The United Red Storm got a no-hitter from Carter Rothzen on their way to a 14-0 win over Galva in Alexis. Derrick Sargeant led the United offense with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. He knocked in four runs as well. Carter Cassidy had three rbis as Rothzen goes all five innings, recording five strikeouts along the way.

The ICS Trojans got an exciting, extra-inning win over LaHarpe/Dallas City at the Field of Dreams in Monmouth. After two runs in the top of the 8th by Galva gave them an 11-9 lead, the Trojan’s took advantage of a bases-loaded hit by pitch on Tanner Ricco. Following the hit batsman, Cross Merritt drew a walk to bring home Nick Lewis-Bresnahan with the winning run.
