Local High School and Junior High Sports Report for Aug. 24th, 2018

Volleyball

In Knoxville, the Blue Bullets hosted the Monmouth-Roseville Titans for a non-conference matchup. The Titans got on the bus with a 3-set, 25-18, 24-26, 25-23 victory. Monmouth-Roseville is now (3-0) on the season heading into the Macomb Invitational this weekend at Western Illinois University. Knoxville ends their first week with a record of (1-1). Carly Gillen was a force at the net all night, getting 20 kills and 12 blocks. Delaney Woodard filled up the stat sheet with 12 assists, six kills and six blocks. Camryn Jones served for 12 points as well for Monmouth-Roseville. Shelby Shreeves had 13 kills and 9 assists, Makayla Benson had 19 assists, with Alis Bickell and Lauren Kavanaugh getting 14 digs a piece.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks dominated Canton 25-6, 25-14 to get their first win in their second match of the season. They were led by Kylie Fyke with four kills and seven blocks. Brynn Atwell had nine assists and Chloe McCarthy led the Silver Streaks in digs with two.

The A-Town Tornadoes earned a road win over South Fulton in Astoria. The Tornadoes were led in their 25-12, 25-10 win over Rebels by Payton Florine’s seven kills. Courtney Moore handed out nine assists and Emma Curry hustled her way to six digs. A-Town begins their season at (1-0).

Williamsfield beat Henry-Senachwine in 3 sets, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18. Alexis Little led Williamsfield with 11 kills. Gionna Ott gave out 13 assists and Katelyn Aldred had 10 digs.
Ridgewood lost a non-conference match to Riverdale in Port Byron 25-11, 25-23. Jenna Stromquist had three kills and Ali Lambin dished out 15 assists.

West Prairie defeated Havana 26-24, 25-20. Kaitlyn Geltmacher smashed 11 kills, Emily Richardson had 20 digs and Kyah Beck served for 15 points.
West Prairie JV lost 25-10, 15-25, 12-15.

Galva lost to Putnam County 25-19, 25-16.

Golf

New Monmouth-Roseville boys golf coach Scott Weber got his first career win as his Titans beat Knoxville, 165-211. Monmouth-Roseville was led by meet medalist Nick Corman’s 38. He was joined in the scoring quartet by Reece Kane’s 40 and Aaron Blindt’s 41 and Blake Cunningham’s 47. Knoxville was led by Damien Jones’ 52, Jacob Betz’s 53 and David Hise and Tanner Moulden’s matching 56’s.

Also in boys golf, the Ridgewood Spartans beat Orion 169-215 at Valley View Golf Course. Thomas Bumann carded a 35 to earn meet medalist honors for the winners. Bill Bumann shot a 41, Ganon Greenman had 44 and Wiley Hart shot a 49 for Ridgewood.

In girls golf, the Galesburg Silver Streaks lost to Moline 201-203 at Saukie Golf Course. Kirsten Osborn led Galesburg with a meet medalist round of 1-under-par 33. Also for Galesburg, Kaylee Allen shot a 51, Kelsi Kleine had a 56 and Halle Majdich, a 63.

Cross Country

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys and girls took part in the Moline Season Opener. The girls placed 3rd as a team, while the boys were 4th. Individually for both teams, Kaitlyn Pendergast was 6th overall. Emma St. George was 10th, Emma Hawkinson was 12th and Grace Palmer was 14th. Alleman was team champ on the girls side. For the Galesburg boys, they were led by Aaron Burrows 8th place finish. He was followed by John Peterson in 15th, Alex Buchen in 16th, Jared Shipp in 18th and Ben Vasquez in 21st.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan baseball team won their second game in as many nights last night in Stronghurst against West Central. The Trojans pounded out eight hits on their way to a 4-2 win over the Heat. CJ Johnson and Nick Lewis-Bresnahan combined to pitch a 1-hitter for ICS. Johnson struck out 12 batters in his 5+ innings of work. Landon Winters got the lone knock for West Central. Bresnahan, Zach Almaguer and Jake Steele each had two hits for the Trojans, now (4-2) on the season. The Heat drop to (5-3).
