The 2nd Annual Bishop Hill Fesitval of the Arts is happening this weekend, August 11th and 12th. Todd DeDecker, Administrator of the Bishop Hill Heritage Association, discusses what the event entails:

“Most importantly it’s a free event, very family friendly. Both days we have a plein-air painting competition going on, we have an arts and crafts show with lots of different vendors coming in. We have music both days, ice cream social one day, a Swedish meatball lunch the next day. Hand on activities at a couple different locations in town. There are a lot of different things going on all over,” shares DeDecker.

There will also be a wheat weaving demonstration available both days from 11am to 4pm at the Steeple Building.

The event is brought to you by the Bishop Hill Arts Council and the Bishop Hill Heritage Association.

Times for the free event are Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday noon until 4pm.

On Saturday August 25th, the Bishop Hill Heritage Association and the Twinflower Inn Bed and Breakfast is putting on the 6th Annual Chautauqua, (pronounced shuh-TAW-kwuh) which is a free event. Todd DeDecker shares the event is a celebration of their rural roots.

The theme for this years event is World War 1 and will take place in Village Park from 11am to 5pm.

DeDecker states this is a fun event for those attending to learn about history by listening to stories and watch scenes being acted out.
