Here’s the first Athletes of the Week for the 2018-2019 school year for the week ending Aug 26th, 2018:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Carly Gillen. Carly has helped the Titans get off to a great start to the season by dominating play at the net during her team’s run to a Macomb Invitational championship. Her 47 kills and 22 blocks during Monmouth-Roseville’s five matches earned Carly a spot on the All-Tournament team.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior cross country runner, Anne Gregory. Anne covered the 5K course at the Farmington Invitational in 22:56.02. That time placed her in 19th place out of 58 total runners in her first meet of the season.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Luke Ditsworth. Luke was fantastic in his team’s season opener against North Fulton. He ran for 138 yards on just 13 carries. Included in those yards were touchdown runs of 64 and 30 yards. Luke also led the team in tackles with 11.

The A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore cross country runner, Natalie Kern. After a breakout freshman year, Natalie started the 2018 school year off strong with an 18th place finish at the season opening Farmington Invitational. Her time of 22:46.78 was good enough for 18th place out of 58 total harriers.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore soccer goal keeper, Kyler Smith. Kyler pitched two shutouts in his team’s recent Colin Smith Invitational Tournament championship run. He blanked the hosts, Stillman Valley, in the semi-finals and Peoria Richwoods in the title game. He has three blank scoresheets in the Streaks first four matches as Galesburg begins their season at a perfect (4-0).

Congrats to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors, MC Sport and More, McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank, Galesburg Toyota!!
